A graduate of Syracuse University, David applied art and design in his construction business, and in bonsai tree or forest design, one of his favorite hobbies. As an avid Apple Macintosh computer user since 1990, he quickly embraced the digital camera revolution and darkroom and is currently using the 21 megapixel, full frame Canon 5DMk2. David offers his work in various offices, stores, and galleries in the Hudson Valley, with many photos in the Catskill Mountain Guide Magazine. David specializes in “At Home - One on One” Photoshop tutoring for beginners on all platforms, Macintosh OSX instruction and photography workflow, from camera settings through editing, printing, and backup. He resides in his converted barn in Woodstock, NY. The Greene County Camera Club, established in 1995, has a tradition of teaching and sharing photographic skills with the community. Its’ members embrace all approaches from classic to cutting edge technology. Not restricted to Greene County residents, the club furthers the interest, education and social benefits of photography offering three meetings every month. The
Bank of Greene County: |
![]() |
The Bank of Greene County becomes a lead sponsor of the GCCA’s 24th Annual Beaux Arts Ball. Don Gibson, President & CEO of The Bank of Greene County waves the bank’s check tantalizingly out of GCCA Executive Director Kay Stamer’s reach. After a bit of fun, the check was “properly” presented. The Bank of Greene County continues its support to the arts by becoming a lead sponsor of the 24th Annual Beaux Arts Ball with a contribution of $5,000 at Picasso’s Platinum Club level. Benefactor support for this major fundraiser for the Arts Council is vitally important, and the bank’s commitment to the arts throughout the years is exemplary. This festive masked ball and creative black-tie dinner dance will be held on March 31 in the spacious and beautiful Copper Tree Restaurant at Hunter Mountain. Proceeds from the Beaux Arts Ball benefit the work of the Arts Council, lending support to all the programs it provides to Greene County residents and visitors. GCCA’s programs include “Arts Alive,” a bi-monthly publication of the arts in both Greene & Columbia counties, grants to artists and arts organizations; “Sprouts” summer arts workshop for young children; grants to schools for artist residencies; exhibition and sales opportunities in two year-round galleries with gift shop boutique and collaborative community revitalization programs, such as the New Masters on Main Street program which debuted last year. GCCA’s Executive Director, Kay Stamer, notes “The Bank of Greene County has been wonderfully supportive of the work the GCCA performs as it seeks to promote artistic endeavors and to provide a rich cultural environment for this Hudson Valley community, and we are deeply grateful.” For more information

Purcell Palmer to Receive Distinguished Service Award at the GCCA’s Beaux Arts Ball on March 31
“The greatest gift of all is the giving of oneself - through steadfast commitment and unselfish contributions to the quality of cultural life in Greene County.” So reads the Greene County Council on the Arts’ Distinguished Service Award. One of the highlights of the Beaux Arts Ball is the presentation of our Distinguished Service Award, underwritten by First Niagara Bank. Since 1989, this award has been presented to artists, individuals and organizations whose outstanding contributions have significantly benefited the health of the Arts Council as well as the cultural life of Greene County. The GCCA has been fortunate to have many gifted supporters over the years. GCCA is proud to announce Purcell Palmer as the 2012 Distinguished Service Award honoree. Please join the GCCA on March 31 and help us honor Purcell. Deadline for reservations is Saturday, March 24, so call or email the GCCA right away at 518-943-3400 or gcca@greenearts.org. For more details about the Ball please visit the GCCA website at www.greenearts.org. Founding sponsor of the Catskill Arts Initiative, Purcell is co-founder with her husband, James, of Catwalk Art Residency, established in 2003 when they moved to Catskill after 30 years in Chicago. Since its inception there have been over 200 artists in residence coming from all over the world through a roster of participating schools, which now includes The School of the Art Institute, Vassar, Columbia University and NYU. After many years in finance as a senior partner in several financial partnerships, Purcell retired to pursue her interests in the arts, which had long been her passion and avocation. The Palmers were drawn to the Hudson River Valley and Catskill by the magnificent landscape, the rich art legacy of the region and the living museum that the area represents. The current vision for the Catskill Arts Initiative’s Masters on Main program and the High Peaks Music Festival have evolved from the vast resources available in this extraordinary laboratory of opportunities in the arts. From 1995 to 2005, Purcell served as a member and then Chairman of the Friends of the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center at Vassar. She is a current Board Member of Close Encounters with Music, past member of the Board of Directors at Thomas Cole Historic Site, current Viewshed Committee member at Olana, on advisory boards at the Art Institute of Chicago in the past, and for many years docent at the Chicago Architecture Foundation. She attended Vassar College, Art Students League, Columbia University and is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. She currently is attending the Institute of Fine Arts in New York and is very proud to be living in Catskill, a past and future center of the arts in the Hudson Valley. |

raised about $29,000.00 towards the replacement of the playground
equipment at Elliot Park. The Fortnightly Club does several very important
fundraisers per year (Wine tasting and the Festival of Trees to name
two) and all of that money goes back into our Communities Parks and

Masters on Main 1st Anniversary Cocktail Party |
Over 25 major institutions have participated in showing the work of over 100 artists from all over the world. The work has included video and film, sculpture, installations, painting, performance and music shown individually as well as collaboratively in group shows. It is an exciting and rewarding initiative with seemingly unlimited prospects. Thanks to the tremendous and tireless talent of Project Director, Fawn Potash as well as the generosity of the building owners, municipal leaders, deeply committed artists and a small group of committed patrons the program has flourished. Next year promises to be another very exciting line-up. We have exhibition commitments for Round 4 (March,April, May, collaborating with Occupy Wall Street's Art and Culture Committee) and Round 5 (June, July, August, the best work from New York Foundation for the Arts fellowship winners). It's time now to put the Masters on Main Street program on more stable financial footing so we can assure our future commitments. With great thanks to our much treasured Catskill Community Theatre, we are now preparing for the second annual Catskill Film and Video Festival on Sunday, January 29th (link). To broaden our fundraising base, we are planning a cocktail party for benefactors at $100 per person on the eve of the festival, Saturday, January 28th. Your
help in spreading the word would be invaluable. Please forward this
note or drop us a line with contact information we can add to the
invitation list. It would help us tremendously in raising awareness
of the rich opportunity this program provides both for artists and
for Catskill. |

Catskill High School students participated in their annual Santa’s Helpers fundraising campaign in early December and ended up collecting $8,500 to assist in the feeding of needy families within the Catskill Central School District. This enormous outpouring of donations and time was made possible by so many. We would like to thank all the local businesses that allowed students to collect in front of their doors including: Stewarts, Extra Mart by the NYS Thruway, Village Pizza, La Conca D’Oro, Tatiana’s, Getty by the Rip Van Winkle Bridge, Dunkin’ Donuts, Jerry’s Deli, Koch’s, Ambrosia Diner, Bank of Greene County, McDonald’s, Walmart, Subway, Tori Gs, and Pomodoros. A very special thanks to Slater’s Great American of Cairo, who donated the truck to deliver the food to Catskill High School and gave a 20% discount, amounting to over $2,000 on all the food purchased. We would also like to thank the Catskill Lioness Club for their generous donations to the cause. With the $8,500 raised we were able to feed 60 needy families in Catskill with enough food for over a week. This program has been a long standing tradition at Catskill High School, dating back over 60 years. We hope that the program continues to be a success, especially in years like 2011, when so many have been hit so hard by the tough economic times. |
